If you are a member of staff and have a specific project or news to get across to all staff at the University, one of the most popular ways to communicate this is by requesting an insert inside the Reporter.

This could be a coupon, a brochure, or even a short newsletter, tucked into the middle pages of the Reporter. Previous customers include the Enterprise and Innovation Office, the Equality Service, and the Worldwide Universities Network.

The advantage of booking an insert is that it will cost you far less money to ‘piggyback’ on the Reporter’s distribution run than to organise a separate mail-out to all staff yourself, and we do not make any profit from this service. However, there is a maximum of three inserts per issue, so you need to book well in advance.

See for the Reporter’s publishing dates, and try to tell us two months in advance.

The cost of an insert is set by the printers and is currently £500 per insert (as of 6 January 2009) for 8,640 copies – please remember this is on top of the usual costs of graphic design, paper and printing.

Customers are responsible for organising their own insert through Media Services, but please contact us first to make sure there is an opening available for an insert in the Reporter.

Phone Lisa Englefield on 0113 343 2451 or email to discuss what you need, and then give her your internal charging code. Lisa will then put you in touch with someone in Print & Copy Bureau.

The insert must have been printed and sent to the Media Services warehouse in the EC Stoner Building at least six working days before the Reporter’s publication date. All copies will then be sent to the printer’s where they will be mechanically inserted into every copy of the Reporter. If you would like fewer copies printed, please discuss this with Print & Copy Bureau.
