A collaborative approach to research

Professor Kim Knott, Jasit Singh and Dr Sean LoughlinProfessor Kim Knott, School of Theology and Religious Studies
“Being involved with postgraduate research students is immensely rewarding; it’s marvellous to see people’s confidence and skills grow. When you see a good student you don’t want to lose them, and it’s absolutely about trying to invest in those who show enthusiasm and promise for the research enterprise.

“This is the first Collaborative Doctorate I’ve been involved with and it’s been extremely successful. My aim is to establish more collaborative doctoral projects and to continue working with partners beyond the academy.”

Jasjit Singh,
Theology and Religious Studies, 2nd year PGR
“I undertook a part-time MA in Religion & Public Life at Leeds which led me to the subject of my doctorate, a study of how and why British Sikhs between the ages of 18-30 learn about their religion.

“Doing my PhD is a chance to explore an area I’m really interested in. I’m hoping to go into academia once I finish my thesis – there are currently just a few courses in the UK that deal with Sikhism, so there’s an opportunity to pursue something here in Leeds.”
