Chairs
Professor Sally Kinsey is a new chair in paediatric haematology
with honorary consultant status in the Leeds Institute of
Molecular Medicine. She was previously a consultant paediatric
haematologist at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. Her
areas of research expertise include childhood leukaemias,
inherited bone marrow failure syndromes, and Down’s syndrome.
Professor Kinsey is a co-ordinator of clinical trials for childhood
acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in the UK and chair of the
Morphology Central Review Panel of all childhood leukaemias
in the UK.
Professor William Gale has been appointed as chair of aviation/aerospace engineering, and director of the Earth, Energy &
Environment Institute. Professor Gale, who graduated from Leeds
with a degree in metallurgy in 1986, has worked at Auburn
University in the United States since 1992. He was executive
director of the Center of Excellence for Airliner Cabin Environment
Research, a US consortium that carries out multi-million dollar
research into health, safety and homeland security aspects of air
travel. Professor Gale has received several awards for excellence
in research and teaching, and was made an alumni professor
in 2004.
