PilatesSummer sports treat
This summer’s new Active Lifestyles programme at the Sports Centre is your perfect opportunity to try out some fun and healthy activities.

Staff can get over their fear of heights by scaling a climbing wall, limber up at pilates, or attend a class focused on toning legs, bums and tums. Sessions held at various times. Parents with children aged 5 to 13 may also be interested in the new summer sports camps run by qualified coaches at Weetwood Hall.

To book a place, phone Patrick Craig on ext. 37541 or email p.m.craig@leeds.ac.uk. For more details, go to www.leeds.ac.uk/sport

Reporter goes green
The Reporter is now printed on 60% recycled Era Silk paper, which is almost identical to regular paper but uses a fraction of the water and energy during manufacturing. It is totally chlorine free, and any virgin pulp fibres originate from sustainably managed forests.

Environmental officer Keith Pitcher said 50% of all paper purchased by the University now has recycled content: “Buying recycled paper doesn’t mean compromising on quality or affordability, so we aim to increase this figure to over 90% by the end of the year.”

Ask Media Services (phone ext. 32668) about printing with recycled paper.

School leavers realise their pure potential
School leaversMore than 500 school students who are yet to decide their path in life will be encouraged to reconsider the benefits of higher education at an all-day event on 7 July at the University of Leeds.

The students will hear a series of presentations on what student life at Leeds is really like, get advice on career options and degree courses, tips on how to make their application stand out from the crowd, and be introduced to some of the UK’s leading graduate employers.

Head of access and community engagement, Ceri Nursaw, said: “We’ve seen students who believed that universities such as Leeds are not for people like them. This event addresses those misconceptions and shows them what life here is really like.”

The event is held in partnership with Pure Potential, an independent organisation that encourages bright students from state schools to lift their aspirations. Research shows that private school students are nearly twice as likely to get a place at a Russell Group university compared to state-educated youngsters.
