Igniting operatic spark
It’s time to fuse art with academia as we celebrate the launch of the University’s groundbreaking
partnership with Opera North on March 26.
A series of bold new projects are planned over the next four years that all staff and students can get involved in, exploring fresh new ways of working to unlock creativity.
One of the key projects in the pipeline is ‘Resonance’, designed to make opera’s many art forms - music, theatre, voice, scenography and the written word - more relevant to contemporary audiences by using digital and multimedia technology.
Leeds will also work with Opera North to create an acclaimed new production each year, beginning with an innovative season of Shakespeare in spring 2008. A series of international conferences and symposia will challenge current thinking and provoke wide-ranging debate.
Our students will be offered work placements to gain hands-on experience of working in a professional theatre, from rehearsals through to the final performance.
The rest of the community won’t miss out either - a series of school and outreach projects, performances and pre-show talks will take place to increase access to the arts for people of all ages and backgrounds.
