CricketStrike for six
Schools, faculties and departments are invited to enter teams to compete in the University’s intra-mural summer cricket leagues, starting in mid-June.

A toast to Bretton
Bretton Hall will be buzzing during a weekend of events from 5 to 6 May to celebrate six decades of achievement by students and staff. This is an opportunity to get together with old friends and enjoy the 47-07 fringe festival of dance, theatre, music and art, plus gala dinners and football.

You and your liver
This hands-on public learning event on Saturday, May 5 from 9.30am to 1pm will show you what happens during a liver transplant, how alcohol affects your liver, and how to keep it healthy. Meet some of the top scientists in the field from the University of Leeds and learn what treatments might be possible in the future. Tickets are freely available, but limited in number. Big belly laughs
Thanks to his confident stage patter and jokes about working at Sainsbury’s, Leeds politics student Dave Howarth has beaten six other contenders to reach the national finals of the Revels Student Comedy Awards (see Reporter 522). Dave’s prize is to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August,

Get fit for summer
Want to get fit for summer? Buy the ‘summer sports user card’ from the University’s Sports Centre to enjoy all their facilities for a special reduced rate, including the best in cardio and strength training equipment. The card is valid from April 11 to September 30, 2007. It costs £40 for ‘standard’ membership or £60 for ‘plus’ membership. Student survey
Leeds’ first programme survey asks students to tell us about their academic experiences. The online survey will be launched on April 23. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vivien Jones will hold a question and answer session for all staff about the survey this Thursday, March 29 in conference auditorium 2 behind the sports hall, from 12 noon to 1pm. Workers’ Memorial Day
Amicus union invites all staff and students to the annual outdoor service of Workers’ Memorial Day on Friday, April 27 at 12.30pm, to remember those who have died or been injured at work in the UK. Please meet on the grassy area behind the Earth Sciences building, where the service will be held. Health and safety officer Liz McIntosh said: “We believe that if people are to work and achieve their ambitions in our society then safety must be seen as a cornerstone of our civilisation.”

Suppliers on show
This year’s suppliers exhibition offers an ideal opportunity to find out what the University’s preferred suppliers can do for your department. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 3 from 10am to 3.30pm in the sports centre (hall 1).
More than 75 companies will be exhibiting throughout the day, including furniture suppliers, lab equipment specialists, design agencies and travel companies. For more details phone 0113 343 2992.
