Dreamy sounds A Leeds graduate, whose dream-like composition Nocturnal Dissonance came runner-up in the 2005 Yorkshire Composers Competition, will hear his work performed for the first time in Leeds on Saturday February 3.
The Sinfonia of Leeds concert, conducted by David Greed, features work by 26-yearold Benjamin Oliver (left), who used to conduct the Leeds University Union Symphony Orchestra. Young Musician of the Year finalist Rahki Singh will be a guest soloist in Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No 1 .
The concert is in the University's Great Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10/£8, available at The Carriageworks, phone 0113 224 3801, or on the door.
Explore the human brain Ever wondered what causes strokes and memory loss, or how the brain works? Meet some of the University's top brain researchers and try out amazing gadgets at the interactive learning event You and Your Brain on Saturday February 3, from 9.30am to 1pm.
Scientists and doctors will be on hand to answer your questions about how the brain works and demonstrate new inventions. Cupid says let's dance Come along to the Staff Centre Valentine's Disco on Friday February 16 and dance to beats from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. This event for staff will be in Café 9 on level 9 of the Staff Centre building.
The £2.50 ticket includes a light meal (available 5.30pm until 9pm) of beef and vegetarian chilli with garlic and pitta bread.

Health and ageing Find out how diet and lifestyle affects the way we age at a seminar on Wednesday February 28 with Unilever's health expert Dr Hitesh Chauhan. It will be held in the medical lecture theatre, level 7 of the Worsley building, starting at 1pm. Just turn up on the day.

Flirting with theatre For a taste of culture, don't miss the University of Leeds Modern Languages Theatre Festival , from February 14 to 17. Spanish students will perform Tres Sombreros de Copa by Miguel Mihura (left), about a young man whose life is turned upsidedown by a music hall dancer the night before his wedding.
Showing February 15 at 2.30pm and 8pm; February 17 at 8pm. German students present Arthur Schnitzler's Die Liebelei (Flirtation) , an exploration of the human condition focused on the amorous relationships of eight people. Showing February 14 at 2.30pm and 8pm; February 16 at 8pm.

Walk the talk Keen to enjoy the great outdoors? The University's Staff Walking Club organises regular weekend walks, open to all current and former staff, postgraduates, family and friends.

Comedy stars shine Three students walked into a bar….enjoy risqué humour by checking out the live heats of this year's Revels Student Comedy Awards, a nationwide hunt to find Britain's funniest student.
The Leeds heat is at Mine bar in the students union building on Monday February 19 at 8pm. Open to all, entry costs £4.50/£3.50.
Show your support, because the university that pulls the biggest crowd to its heat could win a performance from a top comedian.
