Honours

Emeritus Librarian Dennis Cox has been awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French government for his part in the country’s liberation in 1944 when he served as a liaison officer on board a French submarine.

Dr Jane Frecknall Hughes, senior lecturer at Leeds University Business School, has recently been appointed president of the UK Tax Research Network.

Crown Representative to University Court, John Lyles CBE, has been made Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO).

Director of the institute for transport studies Professor Tony May has been made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s birthday honours for his services to transport engineering.

Member of Court and Council, Mrs Linda Pollard JP, was made Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to the community in Bradford.

Head of the school of philosophy Professor Peter Simons has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy.
Professor Chris Snowden of electronic and electrical engineering has been awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Professor Philip Wilby of the school of music has been awarded the Iles medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and been made an Honorary Canon of Wakefield Cathedral.
