Dr Richard Kaplan has been made Professor of Clinical Cancer Studies in the School of Medicine and Associate Director of the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN). Dr Kaplan is currently Chief of the Clinical Investigations Branch at the Division of Cancer Therapy and Diagnosis at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, US. He took up his post on February 19 but will work 50% until June.

Professor Ronnier Luo has accepted the Chair of Colour and Imaging Science in the Department of Colour and Polymer Chemistry. Professor Luo is Professor of Colour Science and Director of the Colour and Imaging Institute at the University of Derby. He has over a decade of experience in applying the theories of colour science to solve industrial problems. He expects to take up his appointment on 1 March.


The Vice-Chancellor, Sir Alan Wilson, has been elected as an honorary fellow by the Governing Body of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

Mrs Linda Pollard, of council, has been appointed chair of the Regional Board for Learning and Skills Councils in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Ms Sharon Simpson-Prentice of healthcare studies has won the 2003 Mary Seacole Award.
