Director of the interdisciplinary centre for scientific research in music, Dr Kia Ng, has been elected a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufacture and Commerce.

The University Gallery is one of four to receive a national ‘drawing inspiration award’ from the Campaign for Drawing, for its exhibition in October 2002. The campaign described the gallery’s ‘Drawn Together’ exhibition as ‘pioneering, and said the accompanying events, such as workshops with local schoolchidren and mass ‘draw-ins’, was ‘immensely successful’ at bringing drawing to a wider public. The gallery wins a £500 prize and an award certificate designed and signed by campaign patron Quentin Blake.

Emeritus Professor Kanti Mardia has been awarded the Royal Statistical Society Medal in Silver for 2003 for his many groundbreaking contributions to statistical science, his highly acclaimed monographs and his lasting leadership role in interdisciplinary research.
