Pathology professor Mike Dixon’s overview of Ilkley’s history looks not only at how hydrotherapy led to the town’s rapid expansion during the Victorian era, but also includes the enigmatic ‘cup and ring’ stones on the Moor, a succession of Roman forts, Saxon crosses, the Norman origins of the church, the complex manorial history and the medieval and pre-Victorian social history.
