Easing the way

New materials to ease the transition of maths students from school to university level work are to be devised by Dr Mike Savage with a £250,000 HEFCE grant.

“Academics are faced with increasing numbers of mathematically ill-prepared students,” said Dr Savage. “Something needs to be done for these students, many of whom have good grades.”

Dr Savage will work with colleagues in Loughborough and Coventry to produce free support for students, including video tutorials and interactive exercises, available online or on CD. Trials of the materials will begin in early 2003.
