roles and job content
staff roles and job content are being analysed in a pilot
scheme supported by Unison and amicus (MSF Section).
The pilot will use the Higher Education Role Analysis
(HERA) system, which has been in development since 1995.
60 members of staff will be interviewed by human resources,
managerial and trade union nominees.
project team led by Linda Mortimer-Pine will report to
a steering group chaired by the next Pro-Vice-Chancellor
for staff, Professor Diane Shorrocks-Taylor. The
results will be reported to University committees in the
discussions about the application of role analysis to
academic staff are continuing and the University is waiting
for the outcome of these discussions before deciding its
approach. Whilst the Joint Negotiating Committee
for Higher Education staff has endorsed the principle
of role analysis as a means of assessing relativities
within HE Institutions, the AUT has not agreed that HERA,
or other alternative schemes, such as Hay, are appropriate.
