Brawn meets brain for charity walk

Staff and students from civil engineering tested their muscles on Woodhouse Moor last week, practising for a charity walk on June 15. They will do the 26 miles carrying a concrete beam, specially designed to reduce its weight, but not its strength and made in the department by third-year undergraduates. The team aims to raise money for Sue Ryder Care's Wheatfields Hospice which cares for patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families.  For more information on the event contact Dan Beety at Sue Ryder Care Wheatfields on 0113 278 7249. Pictured above are (r-l) head of school Professor Ed Stentiford, research students Heather Dyson and Catherine Love, and deputy head Dr Pete Wainwright.
