Celebrating 100 years

Celebration planning for the University centenary in 2004 is under way. It's hoped a programme of activities will lay some foundations for the future, as well as celebrate past achievements.

Particular focus will be given to the period around the anniversary of the granting of the University's charter, on April 25.  A special 'centenary' ceremony, with commissioned music and incorporating honorary degrees, and a range of events and exhibitions are under consideration, together with the possibility of badging regular events with a centenary theme.

It's also hoped to launch a major fund-raising campaign for capital projects – a major refurbishment of the Parkinson Court is a popular choice – together with new posts in emerging areas of study and scholarships.

Suggestions are welcome; please email University secretary ext 34011. For more information about current thinking, please see the Reporter website.
