New website for mental health

A unique website about mental health for students – www.leeds.ac.uk/ahead4health – has been launched by the University and the student union.

Featuring Sue, Ahmed, Phil, Steve, Deborah and Emma, the website sets out the problems faced by many students – exam fears, splitting up, homesickness, loneliness, divorcing parents – and the ways in which these, and other issues, can be dealt with.

University head of counselling Nigel Humphrys said: "All students will, of course, feel stress at some stage during their university career – and most will have the resources to get through.

"However, some students will experience more acute difficulties, and this site is designed to help them access appropriate help and understand their condition better."

Leeds University Union welfare officer Sarah Lund said: "Ahead4health is a great resource for students, helping to eradicate the stigma attached to mental health problems."
