Copyright ruling

Universities now have a single blanket licence for multiple copying, following a ruling by the Copyright Tribunal. Course packs can now be created with illustrated material at a fee of £4 per full-time student for a period of five years. The new licence, which includes distance learners, will be much simpler to administer and represents good value for money.

Diana Warwick, chief executive of Universities UK who took the case to the Tribunal, said: "The new ruling is much more favourable to universities on cost terms and in the elimination of bureaucracy."
