Healthcare education

Clinical nursing professor Clare Hale has been questionning the government's plans for healthcare education.

"A concern is that behind the interdisciplinary educational agenda is another agenda to reconfigure nursing: the clever nurses get creamed off to be clinical specialists (or perhaps physicians' assistants) and the rest get reconfigured as multitasking health care professionals at the basic level," said Professor Hale in a paper for the institute of public policy research (IPPR).

"In order to proceed, the government must give a clear policy statement that the identity of existing professional groups will be maintained. Furthermore, many of the practical and logistical problems with inter-professional education remain to be fully confronted."
