Help is at hand

Nearly 1,000 students were helped by the University counselling service last year, in either individual or group sessions and workshops. There was an increase in the numbers needing one-to-one counselling and the service is now hoping to relocate to a larger building to help reduce waiting lists.

Over 98% of students gave positive feedback, with more than 93% saying their experience of UCSC was good or excellent. Many felt that without the help of the service, they would have been unable to finish their degrees.

Some students thought that staff need to be more aware of the help UCSC can offer, in order to recommend the service to students with problems.

The service can be contacted on ext 34107. Click here for more information on counselling for staff.

A new website, enabling students to take more control of their own mental health, is to be launched on May 17 at
