Learning the lessons

There are clear lessons to be learnt from the Northern Ireland experience for other troubled parts of the world, suggests human rights expert Professor Colin Harvey. He will examine the consequences of the 1998 Good Friday agreement in his inaugural lecture on April 23.

The lecture will focus on human rights in Northern Ireland and the constitutional changes in place to address and protect them. Professor Harvey said: "These changes have implications for human rights protection throughout these islands."

Born in Northern Ireland, Professor Harvey's books include Human rights, equality and democratic renewal in Northern Ireland and Seeking asylum in the UK: problems and prospects.

The lecture Crossing borders: human rights and constitutional change in the British-Irish context is open to all and starts at 5.30pm in the Yorkshire Bank lecture theatre on Tuesday 23 April.
