Win WUN grants

A second round of Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) studentships are now open to applications from research students at Leeds.

Students from Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Southampton and York conducting research in topics including bio-medical informatics, geographical information systems, public policy, smart materials and nanotechnology, nursing, management and oceanography can apply for the funded placements at US universities in the WUN, including Penn State and Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Earth science's Matt Roberts will spend six weeks in Illinois this summer to gain experience with leading oceanography researchers, developing practical skills and cementing links with Urbana-Champaign University. The first round of WUN studentships, awarded in December 2001, will fund his visit.

He said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to get access to people that you might only meet fleetingly at conferences, and to really understand and learn from their work."

The closing date for applications is May 3. For more information, contact the research degrees and scholarships office on ext 34007or email Cheryl Edwards at
