staff can now apply for special payments as part of an
initiative for rewarding and developing staff. The University
is allocating £740,000 from a £1.7m HEFCE grant to fund

of the scheme will allow some lecturers on grade A to
move up the scale, or gain promotion to grade B, where
they can show satisfactory results in all areas of work.
Other payments will be one-off only, in recognition of
particular achievements or contributions, rather than
