Physics and paperclips

Showing off – pupils from Leeds Girls' High School demonstrate radiation penetration

Five Yorkshire schools teams took part in the regional final of the paperclip physics competition, where sixth formers put together a five minute demonstration of an area of physics using everyday household objects.

Radiation penetration, heat transfer, and standing waves were among topics chosen by the teams from Cranshaw School, Leeds, Hull High School, Leeds Girls' High School and Meadowhead School in Sheffield.

The winning team from Ermysted School in Skipton is competing for the UK title in London next week, with their explanation of the workings of a fibre optic Christmas tree.
