Issue 479, 18 March 2002

Allocation announced

The University's grant for 2002-3, announced by the funding council on March 6, is 102,895,000 an increase of 5.7 percent on last year (or 4.5 percent, when extra student numbers are taken into account). The HEFCE allocation, which represents around a third of the University's total income, is above the average for the sector, which stands at 4.9 percent (or 3.5 percent, with the student numbers adjustment).

The University has also maintained our overall share of funding, and in percentage terms, the increase is average for our peer group.

The grant is the sixth highest in the country, behind the Open University, Cambridge, UCL, Oxford and Imperial.
