Selling to Lauren

A pioneering multi-media system to teach students the skills of the textile industry has been shortlisted for the Society of Dyers and Colourists' innovation awards. The CD, created by textiles lecturer Dr Simon Harlock and former lecturer Dr Ian Holme has already achieved sales of 500,000 and buyers include US fashion house Ralph Lauren, chemicals giant Dupont and retailers including Marks and Spencer, Woolworth and Grattan.

The CD contains 80 hours of teaching, demonstrating skills such as knitting, weaving, dyeing, colouring, finishing and printing and includes animation, graphics and video footage of textile production in factories in Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

The Bradford-based society's awards attracted entries from around the world and winners will be announced on April 26.
