Students take action

Leeds Student Community Action launched a revamped website to celebrate student volunteering week 2002. The group has more than 700 members who work in over 60 projects in the local community, helping children, families, the elderly and disabled.

Committee member Andrew Brigden said: "Leeds SCA benefits not only the people and groups our volunteers work with, but the students as well, who learn new skills, enhance their talents and meet new people, helping to form an integrated community."

The experience of volunteer work with SCA can influence students' careers like former volunteer Dave Gilbert, who graduated in 2000, decided to stay in Leeds and now works as a special needs assistant at Elmete Wood School.
