privilege to hear him speak
prize-winning poet and Leeds honorary graduate Seamus
Heaney spoke to a packed auditorium at the University
on January 30. Reading from his many collections of poetry,
his vivid descriptions and anecdotes helped to paint a
picture of the moments in his life when the poems were
born, whether in his grandmother's kitchen, watching an
RUC officer with his father, or at his mother's deathbed.
He professed himself impressed that a poetry reading could
attract so many people, but the 700 people who attended
will feel themselves privileged to have heard him speak.
