Travelshop closure

Travel company USIT's campus office in the students' union has been closed by the company, along with its other branches, amidst rumours of a takeover by STA travel. The company, set up in 1959 as a campus holiday agency part-owned by the union of students in Ireland, was struggling under a 7m debt. It ran into trouble after buying Council Travel in the US just ten days before the attacks on New York and Washington.

A stall has been set up outside USIT to sell First Leeds bus passes, and a small number of flight tickets for travel between February and May can be collected from the admin counter upstairs in the Union.

It is likely that any tickets not yet received will need to be rebooked. The University has contractual arrangements with three travel agents: Delta Travel on 0161 274 3060, Key Travel on 0161 819 8910 and Northenden Travel on 0161 437 4371. Further details at uoleeds/travel/travhome.htm
