New IT lab funding

Geophysics students now have access to industry standard computer facilities in earth sciences thanks to generous funding from the ExxonMobil higher education support scheme.

The money has been used to equip a new project laboratory opened on November 28 by ExxonMobil's Dr Christine Gleeson and Dr David Moreton.

The new computers and software will speed up work, such as modelling plate tectonics and mapping seismic data and will be used primarily by fourth year undergraduates for their final year independent project work.
