Hastings
scholarship
The
school of theology and religious studies has launched
an appeal to establish a scholarship for research students
from Africa. The Adrian Hastings Africa Scholarship will
commemorate the late Emeritus Professor of Theology and
renowned historian of the church in Africa (pictured

unable to take up places in the school through lack of
funding.
The
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Alan Wilson, who joins Archbishops
Desmond Tutu and George Carey, the Honourable Peter Jay
and others as patrons of the project, said: "This scholarship
not only addresses an immediate educational need, but
contributes to the Universitys long-term commitment
to creative engagement with the African continent".
The
appeal was launched at Professor Hastingss memorial
service and £15,000 has already been raised. The School
plans to admit the first Adrian Hastings Scholar next
autumn.
