Phone number changes

University telephone numbers are changing - extension numbers will change in mid December, external direct dial in (DDI) numbers will change early in the new year.

How the change will affect the Leeds campus

From mid December your existing internal extension number will be prefixed by 3, making it 5 digits. Your external direct dial in (DDI) number will be unaffected at this point.

How the change will affect the Bretton Hall and Wakefield campuses

From mid December everyone will receive a new 5 digit extension number. Your external direct dial in (DDI) number will be unaffected at this point.

All Sites

Early next year the external direct dial in (DDI) numbers will be updated and will incorporate the new 5 digit extension. All external numbers will start with a Leeds area code.

The Benefits

The change will enable us to integrate all sites into the main University telephone system, allowing staff to direct-dial internally between all University sites. In addition, the purchase of a greater range of telephone numbers will address our growing need for additional University numbers.

We are still working with suppliers to finalise timing. We are planning to:

  • Activate the 5 digit extension - early December
  • Activate the external DDI number - early in the new year

Things to consider

  • Please keep stocks of stationery low in anticipation of the changeover.
  • Talk to us about publications containing phone numbers that need to go to press before Christmas

We will provide you with regular updates on progress. In order for the changeover to go smoothly we need to know about any quirks in the telephone system or numbers that require special consideration.

A web page with up-to-date information about the change will be in operation soon if you have any comments, queries or concerns please contact:
