From a rag to riches

Leeds Student Charity Rag handed over an impressive £43,000 to the city council in a presentation at Leeds Civic Hall on October 23. The money will benefit Leeds-based national and international charities, including the Leukaemia Research Fund, St Gemma’s Hospice, Leeds Mencap and Link Africa.

Deputy Lord Mayor, councillor Frank Robinson, was joined by representatives from some of the thirty charities which will share the money.

Rag co-ordinator Laura Conner said: "Fundraising events range from sponsored hitch hikes to Paris, Dublin and Morocco, a high profile fashion show, club nights, balls, street collections and rag week. These events give students the opportunity to develop invaluable skills that they would not have the opportunity to use as part of their academic studies."
