Plaque dedication

Alison Baker, who bared all in an alternative calendar to raise money for leukaemia research, has unveiled a plaque at the University in memory of her husband, who died from the disease. Mrs Baker was one of eleven women’s institute members who featured in the calendar, raising nearly £500,000 for the Leukaemia Research Fund.

The money will support research by Professor Gareth Morgan into the genetic factors that predispose people to leukaemia and lymphoma, and forms part of a £5.7m grant from the LRF to the University. New molecular epidemiology laboratories are to be built, where the plaque to John Baker will take pride of place.
