Anthrax research

Leeds postgraduate Thiang Yian Wong is part of the researcher team at the Burnham Institute, California, which has published the crystal structure for anthrax lethal factor (LF) one of the anthrax toxins which makes the disease so potentially deadly. Dr Wong, who gained both her BSc and PhD at Leeds, is interested in the possible uses of LF to control cancer tumours, but as LF is also a possible target for therapeutic agents, the work will also help those looking for better treatments for anthrax. The paper was to be published in Nature next month, but was posted in advance online due to the current situation in the US.
