Boost for EU links

A consortium of research groups in the school of medicine has been named as a Marie Curie molecular epidemiology training site (METS), giving them international recognition as a centre of excellence in the molecular epidemiology of chronic diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The EU funded METS scheme will support study visits of 3-12 months by postgraduate students from outside the UK over the next four years, with a total value of 120,000 euros. Paid coordinator Dr Routledge from molecular epidemiology, one of the coordinators of the succesful bid, said: " This award provides an exciting opportunity for boosting high quality collaborations between the METS groups in Leeds and research groups in European universities and research institutes."

The research groups involved in the METS are:

Molecular Epidemiology Unit

LRF Clinical Epidemiology Unit

Paediatric Epidemiology Group

Cancer Epidemiology Group

Molecular Vascular Medicine Unit

ICRF Genetic Epidemiology Unit
