Praise for POLIS

A score of 23 in their recent subject review is well-earned recognition for the Institute for Politics and International Studies (POLIS). The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) praised the breadth of subject diversity in the curriculum, which they called ‘well- constructed and up- to- date’. The report also mentions the practical skills training offered by the institute, especially on the politics and parliamentary studies degree, which includes student placements in the House of Commons. The environment in the institute and the University as a whole was described as ‘caring and supportive’, and the library and IT resources as ‘excellent’.

POLIS director, Professor Kevin Theakston said: "The review came in the middle of only our second year. Before 1999 we were two separate departments. The massive vote of confidence given to our learning and teaching shows that the merger which created POLIS has been successful in promoting the study of politics and international studies at the University of Leeds."
