Progress on pay

University employers have made a new pay offer, worth 3.3% on average following 15 hours of negotiations on May 11.

The offer is part of a package of proposals put forward by the University & Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) and is dependent on acceptance of the whole package. The proposals also include a new national joint committee for the sector.

The percentage increase would be dependent on category of staff, but would average out at around 3.3%. The offer provides for phased increases leading to a new unified settlement date of 1 August for all staff from 2002 onwards.

All the HE unions will now be consulting their members and a further meeting between UCEA and the unions will be held on June 25.
