Bursaries boost

The University has been allocated 124 opportunity bursaries by HEFCE more than any other pre-1992 university. The bursaries, worth 2,000 each, are part of the Excellence in Cities initiative and are intended to encourage youngsters from lower income groups to apply to university. Access head, Carol Stagg, said: "These bursaries are a tremendous boost to the work we have been doing to widen participation at the University, such as the summer schools and the Robert Ogden scholarships." She will be writing to admissions tutors with details of how the bursaries are to be allocated.
