The best poster

A prize-winning poster was the focus of a visit to the campus by Harold Best, MP for Leeds North West (pictured left, above). The poster by Dr David Marples (pictured right) was presented at the SET (science engineering and technology) for Britain exhibition at the House of Commons. It shows Dr Marples’ work on special water channels in the kidney which control the amount of water reabsorbed from the urine and relates it to a number of diseases in which the process is disturbed. Dr Marples’ research is looking at ways of controlling water loss and retention, and could lead to the creation of novel diuretics or ‘water tablets’.
