A second prestigious SMART award from the Department of Trade and Industry has been won by a Leeds Innovation company to develop and expand the range of devices made from their unique glass materials.
Signals for telephone calls, internet data and television are sent along glass fibre and require boosting over long distances. Optiglass Devices Ltd has created advanced fibre amplifiers which work without the need to convert between light and electrical signals. Professor Animesh Jha, the main researcher for the company, and Dick Gale, its MD, are pictured above with both awards.
