Sci-fi travels in time

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Perhaps! Philip K Dick’s fabulously titled book, which was filmed as Blade Runner in 1982, is just one of those on display in the new exhibition ‘2001: Travels in Space, Time and the Imagination’.

The exhibition is arranged to show the evolution of the science fiction and fantasy genre from the classical period to the present day. Early exhibits include The adventures of Baron Munchausen, Thomas Moore’s Utopia, and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

The books, all from the library’s special collection, have also been chosen to illustrate the relationship between printed fiction and science fiction films. An on-line catalogue can be viewed at http://www.leeds.ac.uk/library/spcoll/scifi.htm
