The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) is consulting higher education institutions on how to allocate an additional £80 million announced in the Government’s spending review for 2001-2 for rewarding, retaining, and developing staff.
Institutions have until June 2001 to submit their strategies for addressing priority areas, including recruiting and retaining world-class staff.
The amount available in future years is £120m in 2002-3, and expected to be at least £170m in 2003-4. The extra funding is aimed at enabling institutions to recruit and retain high quality academic staff and improve human resources development and staff management.
