David Pickles, a third-year student on the nursing studies DipHE programme in the School of Healthcare Studies, has been awarded a Royal College of Nursing educational scholarship to fund an elective placement with Australia’s aboriginal healthcare service.
After five weeks of fieldwork at Geraldton, Western Australia, arranged by Professor Mike Hazleton of Curtin University in Perth, he plans to share his experiences of multi-cultural practice with students here before embarking on his career as a staff nurse. The RCN scholarship scheme is highly competitive, open to practising professionals as well as students.
