Three Leeds researchers were among the prizewinners in a hotly-contested Yorkshire and Humberside Universities postgraduate poster competition hosted by the University. Over 130 postgraduates put on show their work in industry-related research areas.
Judges from academia and industry looked for innovation potential, the long-term impact of the research, the quality of the science and the clarity and visual impact of the poster.
Dawn Hadden, from Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, won £1,000 for her poster describing her work to improve the design of drugs used to treat cancer and AIDS. Two other Leeds contenders picked up £250 awards. Martin Head from Civil Engineering won a sector prize for engineering, materials and manufacturing, while the environmental industries sector prize was won by Michael Spence from Earth Sciences. Prizes for this year’s event, the first of its kind, were sponsored by the development agency Yorkshire Forward and BP.
