The German Ambassador, HE Dr Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz, has paid a visit to the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Department of German. He was given a tour of ERIC, the School’s new electronic resources and information centre, which offers language students enhanced access to the internet.
The Ambassador was impressed by the imaginative use the Department makes of web-based language learning. He chatted with members and guests in the Department, complimenting the students on their command of the language and their awareness of current affairs in Germany. The Leeds school is bucking a national downturn in numbers studying languages, recently highlighted by the Nuffield Languages Inquiry.
