City centre shapes up

The Millennium Square development currently under way in the centre of Leeds is to house a new arts cinema within strolling distance of the University campus. Developers plan to refurbish three landmark buildings - the Electric Press, Stansfield Chambers and Portland Chambers - into a three-screen cinema with adjacent café bars, shops, restaurants and apartments.

While work on the square progresses towards its opening in October, a series of temporary art installations are being placed around the site.

The £12m project is to result in a 4,500 sq m space with a capacity of up to 20,000 people. The City Councilís website has further coverage of events at
