Tea and harmony

Hundreds of University students rallied around to help run a variety of events marking Community Week, from March 20 to 26.

A highlight was the 11th annual tea party for more than 300 elderly guests from local retirement homes and community groups, with the Stage Musical Society providing a selection of numbers from the current production of West Side Story.

Estelle Weitz, co-ordinator of Student Community Action - the student unionís largest society - said: "This week helps give students a sense of ownership in the local community. By getting involved, students have the ability to change things." Union welfare officer Ruth Bennett described the events as "a celebration of the diversity in the local community."
