Charting the struggle

A seminal text on the rise of the suffragette movement in the north of England has been republished with a new introduction by co-author Jill Liddington, from continuing education. One Hand Tied Behind Us, by Liddington and Jill Norris, details women’s experiences in factories and mills at the turn of the century as they struggled against poverty, and for rights. Ms Liddington is the author of Female Fortune, documenting the extraordinary life of heiress and scholar Anne Lister, and The Long Road to Greenham, which won the Fawcett book prize in 1990.
