Modest funds have been released to help a small number of departmental collections meet Museums and Galleries Commission registration standards. Similar opportunities will be provided for other collections in the future. The funding is also being used to underpin bids to appoint dedicated collections and access officers.
"While the day-to-day care and management of collections will continue to be within the remit of individual curators and heads of service, department or resource centre, these appointments will provide a springboard for further external funding bids to improve the care, conservation and presentation of collections and to improve public access," said Melody Mellor in the secretariat. A report laying out the framework for future action has also been prepared. For draft copies and more information contact Ms Mellor on ext 4061.
