Terror warning to Parliament

A new law extending anti-terrorism powers to police dealing with violent animal rights or middle-eastern groups would not be subject to an annual review of its fairness or necessity, a University law researcher warned MPs recently.

Professor Clive Walker, of the centre for criminal justice studies, was invited to brief Parliament about implications of the new Terrorism Bill, published on December 2. The Bill is expected to become law this summer.
